Thomas Tuchel Claims Top Talents Do Not Necessarily Form the Strongest Squad

The England manager declared that putting together the highest-profile footballers does not guarantee creating the most effective team unit. Tuchel suggested regardless of whether Jude Bellingham had returned to peak fitness after his shoulder injury, the player could still have missed out from the recent England squad.

Emphasis on Squad Harmony

The Three Lions' manager also indicated that the Arsenal winger's return may not have happened had his fellow Arsenal player Noni Madueke been available. The coach has put great importance on team cohesion in his selection for the forthcoming Wales friendly and World Cup qualifier against Latvia.

"We're creating the best team," stated Tuchel, who challenged the conventional wisdom that championship teams always select their top attacking players.

Previous Results

The manager referenced the excellent atmosphere during last month's international break when England defeated Andorra and performed brilliantly versus the Serbian team in Bellingham's absence. He saw little justification to change the group dynamic which delivered such positive results.

  • Jude Bellingham excluded despite club comeback
  • Foden not included despite resurgence
  • Grealish additionally missed out

Physical Condition Factors

Although the manager partly explained Bellingham's exclusion to fitness concerns, he recognized that the player desired selection during their conversation. The German coach had earlier apologized to Bellingham for remarks regarding his playing conduct.

"Don't you think that attitude from substitutes, support from training, and squad unity enables the first team to play to their potential?" Tuchel asked.

Team Choices Explained

Tuchel emphasized that his decisions weren't individual targeting specific individuals but instead rewarded those who had delivered during the previous campaign.

"How would I my explanation dropping them while remaining credible with my statements?" Tuchel asked.

Injury Enforced Changes

The sole alteration in selection was compulsory with the unfit Madueke making way for the returning Bukayo Saka. The manager explained that even Saka might have missed out had Madueke stayed healthy.

Other absentees featured Chelsea's Cole Palmer, who remains to struggle with injury problems. With only two more camps prior to the tournament, opportunities are diminishing for certain individuals to prove themselves.

Tournament Timing Issues

Tuchel expressed his preference for England's World Cup games to start later due to heat concerns across the host nations. Tuchel recognized this might cause watching problems for UK supporters but maintained athlete protection remains the priority.

"I know the fans won't be happy but for the team it's better with later kickoffs," he stated. "Our athletes are the game and we have to protect them."
