The future president of the prestigious debating society has been ousted from office after failing a no-confidence vote that followed his disputed social media posts about the conservative activist.
The motion against George Abaraonye reached the necessary two-thirds threshold to remove him from office, according to an statement from the organization.
The dispute began after the student reportedly shared messages on social media that seemed to welcome the death of Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot while addressing a university in Utah.
According to reports, one social media message reportedly read "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an extended form of the acronym for 'laughing out loud'.
The student leader is also said to have posted in a WhatsApp chat with fellow students appearing to welcome the incident.
The no-confidence motion took place over the recent days, with outcomes revealed on Tuesday.
Society announcements showed that over twelve hundred votes were cast in favor of removal, while 501 were opposed the motion.
The announcement confirmed that the future president was considered to have resigned in accordance with the society's regulations.
Proceedings were temporarily halted early on the previous day after the election official was allegedly subjected to "obstruction, intimidation, and unwarranted hostility" from multiple individuals.
In a response, Mr Abaraonye asserted that the vote tally had been stopped because electoral officials believed "no valid outcome could be reached as a result of procedural failures".
His statement unequivocally denied that any person appointed by the student had engaged in intimidating or disruptive behavior.
The student stated that extremely serious issues had been submitted to the disciplinary committee and that he remained the elected leader.
His comment added that he was "grateful and honored to have the support of significantly more than half of students at Oxford" who supported a "safe election and oppose efforts to undermine the electoral process".
Opponents have said that any decision to keep him would "signal to the world that the society has prioritized politics over principles".
On recently, Kirk's former chief of staff read out an public message to the Oxford Union on The Charlie Kirk Show podcast.
The message criticized the society of becoming a institution where "presidents of the union openly applaud the killing of a political opponent".
The communication indicated that if Mr Abaraonye were to keep his position, Kirk's allies would "personally contact every American political speaker who has ever graced the union's chamber and urge them never again to lend their name".
The Oxford Union had earlier criticized Mr Abaraonye's remarks after Kirk's death and confirmed that complaints submitted about him had been referred for official review.
The president-elect had been one of several students to discuss with the activist at the society in spring.
