The acclaimed filmmaker's legendary action saga, The Odyssey, is a film audiences have been anticipating since its announcement. It firmly sits among the most hotly anticipated films of 2026. As a pre-Christmas treat, a preview has now been released, even if it's compromised due to the platform's low-quality encoding—maybe illustrating the director's choice to restrict the preview exclusive to cinemas.

A First Glimpse at the Legendary Cast

This first look showcases Matt Damon portraying the king of Ithaca. We also see Tom Holland as Telemachus alongside Anne Hathaway depicting the loyal wife. In a poignant moment, the character pleads with Odysseus to promise he will return, to which he look up and question what occurs should he fail. Furthermore, the preview provides a quick, obscured look at Polyphemus the Cyclops, from whom sheep are are taken by the hero and his men during their arduous journey.

Based upon a foundational pillar of Western literature, The Odyssey follows the lengthy quest undertaken by the famed ruler. After his triumph at Troy, which is depicted within the companion epic, the king faces a long and perilous road home.

Legendary Obstacles and a Star-Studded Lineup

On his travels, Odysseus confronts countless challenges and mythical beings. This roster features the enchantress Circe, who transforms men into swine, as well as the treacherous Sirens. Regardless of these ordeals, his sworn oath is to overcome anything to reunite with Penelope and Telemachus on his home island.

This film's ensemble boasts an impressive lineup. Alongside the leading trio is Charlize Theron as the cunning Circe, alongside Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.

A Tale of Many Adaptations

The classic poem has inspired many reinterpretations over the years. These range from modern retellings to a 1999 ballet. There has even been a stage musical adaptation called Epic: The Musical, presented as a multi-part album series.
