Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs to Miss Tour Leg for Medical Care

The guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has stated he will be absent from a portion of his band’s reunion tour as he receives treatment for a prostate cancer diagnosis.

Concerts He Will Miss

The 60-year-old musician, a founding member of the group, confirmed he will not be performing at the scheduled shows in Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney and Melbourne.

The show in Seoul is set for 21 October, followed by Tokyo on 25-26 October, Melbourne on 31 October, 1 and 4 November, and Sydney on 7-8 November.

Statement on His Condition

In a online statement, he disclosed that he was found to have prostate cancer at the start of the year and is responding well to treatment.

“Early this year I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The good news is I’m responding really well to treatment, which enabled me to participate in this incredible tour.
“Now, I am needing to take a planned break for the next phase of my treatment, so I’ll be unable to attend the gigs in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m very disappointed to be missing these shows but I’m doing well and will be returning ready to go in time for the South American leg.”

Previous Health Challenge

This is not his first medical challenge. In 2022, Arthurs revealed he had been diagnosed with a tonsil cancer diagnosis.

At that time, he wrote: “Just to let you all know I’m going to be taking a break from playing for a while. I have been diagnosed with a tonsil cancer. But the good news is it’s manageable and I will be starting a treatment plan soon.”

Career Highlights

Arthurs was a member in the band The Rain with the frontman in the start of the 90s before they brought in the frontman’s sibling, Noel, who subsequently demanded they change their name.

He featured on three records with the group, including the era-defining Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, before departing in 1999 during the recording of the fourth album, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.

Arthurs subsequently became part of Liam Gallagher’s band for a period and has often performed on stage with Liam during his individual projects, most recently at the UK music festivals in 2021.

He also established the group his own band and served as a broadcast presenter after his period in the group.
