Blast Takes Three Law Enforcement Officers During Property Removal Operation in the Verona Area

Three police officers lost their lives and no fewer than 15 people sustained injuries in a seemingly deliberate blast caused by gas at a farmhouse in the northern part of Italy.

Sequence of Events

The explosion occurred as law enforcement and fire personnel entered the property near the Verona region to execute an eviction order for a brother and sister trio aged in their 50s and 60s.

Each of the three victims who died served in the Italian military police.

Investigation Developments

One male and one female got detained at the location and another man who fled after the explosion was found soon after. Each of them have been admitted to hospital.

The explosion could be heard as far as 3 miles distant and photographs from the scene revealed the property turned into a mass of wreckage.

“We are in a period of mourning,” stated the Interior Minister Minister Piantedosi, who noted that efforts had been made to displace the three siblings in the earlier times.

Property Situation

The head of the Veneto area, President Zaia, said the farmhouse was subject to an removal notice due to financial obligations incurred by the property owners.

Conflict resolution experts had been dispatched to engage the brothers and sister who had locked themselves into the house. When the officers reached the location soon after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), investigators suspect one of the residents triggered the detonation.

“When we entered the property, we faced an utterly insane act,” provincial police commander the police commander informed the media.

Casualties and Damage

Those injured by the incident consisted of 11 other members of the police force as well as three officers of Italy's state police and a emergency responder.

According to the Verona prosecutor, the farmhouse was in a dilapidated shape and had was without power.
