Greetings to Del Mar near San Diego, California, as day two of the 2025 Breeders’ Cup is underway. This marks the concluding day of top-level racing for the iconic rider Frankie Dettori, who is set to retire following a remarkable four-decade career.
Below is the full schedule of events scheduled today at Del Mar, displaying start times in GMT:
This race was expected to be among the more competitive editions of this unique seven-furlong contest for female horses. However, vet checks led to several scratches this morning, including leading runners Sweet Azteca as well as Tamara.
Consequently, the field looks significantly reduced, though conditioner Bob Baffert has a major opportunity to secure a twentieth Breeders’ Cup victory. His entrants include Richi along with Splendora, while Hope Road, winner of the Grade One Ballerina Stakes, is viewed as the main challenger.
Selection: HOPE ROAD
A key European hopes, Arizona Blaze, was withdrawn yesterday, but attention remains on Khaadem and jockey Frankie Dettori, as they attempt to follow up a recent Grade One win in the Woodford Stakes.
Other notable runners include Bucanero Fuerte as well as She’s Quality, both holding solid form. American-trained competitors like Motorious, Ag Bullet, plus Reef Runner present significant threats, especially Ag Bullet having demonstrated Grade One-winning form in the Jaipur Stakes.
Selection: AG BULLET
Approximately 15 minutes until post time for the Filly & Mare Sprint, the latest odds on the US tote are as follows:
Aside from Dettori’s rides, other stars on the card include Rebel’s Romance, who could join an elite group to win three Breeders’ Cup races. He faces Minnie Hauk as well as Goliath in a stellar renewal of the Turf.
French trainer Francis-Henri Graffard is represented by several entrants, such as Sahlan in the Mile and Gezora in the Filly and Mare Turf, as he seeks to break a lengthy drought for French runners at the Breeders’ Cup.
The Classic race promises a thrilling matchup between the leading trio from last year’s event and two of the first three from the Kentucky Derby.
